The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam will host the 8th World Congress on Adult Capacity ‘Maximising autonomy and tailoring safeguards for adults in need of support’ in Amsterdam on 8, 9 and 10 July 2026. The congress will be convened by Kees Blankman and Rieneke Stelma-Roorda. It is our pleasure to invite you to join us in Amsterdam.

Bringing together international experts on aging, disability and guardianship, this congress provides a platform for contributions from the various disciplines and practices that contribute to improving the rights of persons in need of support.

In the coming decades, the dignity and human rights of  persons in need of support will be threatened by a number of developments. Not only by geopolitical tensions or the impact of climate change, but also by cuts in care budgets and access to justice. WCAC 2026 aims to bring together a community of researchers, people who care or are cared for, policymakers, practitioners and others in all relevant professions, NGO’s and other stakeholders to interact and learn from one another’s experiences to address the challenges of the next decade.
