The construction and role of gender in family law

Gendered assumptions continue to underpin family law (e.g., types of parenthood, access to reproduction); and family law still has – often invisible – gendered effects (e.g., in custody, maintenance or cohabitation arrangements). This research line critically examines the extent to which gendered assumptions inform the development of family law and, conversely, the ways in which family law perpetuates gendered inequalities. In line with the SRN’s ‘s commitment to interdisciplinary research, the integration of insights from gender studies is a key component of this research line.
